Siemens has been awarded a $1.78 million contract to showcase digital twin technology for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
A digital twin is a virtual representation of a real-world product or process. It’s possible to virtually “twin” almost anything, from subcomponents of a product to plant equipment to a maintenance or service process. The twin then allows for simulation and experimentation in a risk-free environment.
“As one customer observed, you can make as many mistakes as you want with a digital twin,” says Del Costy, the senior vice president and managing director for Siemens Digital Industries Software in the Americas. “But when you are ready to manufacture, you have significantly increased the probability for success.”...
