Adam Burja is trained as a Microbiologist and (Bio)Chemical Engineer and currently works on the industrialization of new and improved bio-based, nutritional products at Royal DSM.  He received a BSc from University of Melbourne and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Heriot-Watt University (UK) in the field of Industrial Biotechnology.  During his career, he has held Government, Academic and Industry positions in Australia, Europe, Canada and the United States.  Since moving to the US in 2008, he has worked at medium and large Biotechnology Life Science and Energy Companies on the East and West Coast. He joined DSM in 2016, to lead the Bioprocess Engineering Group and later the Nutrition Innovation Center.  Located in Columbia, MD, he and his team work on scouting new innovation opportunities and later stage Research and Development projects. Focusing, on the development of novel nutritional lipids, vitamins, carotenoids and other nutritional ingredients.  Most recently, he led the DSM ‘Big Ticket’ Innovation project – Veramaris – to deliver a sustainable, algal-based, omega-3 feed ingredient to the global aquaculture industry.
