Ana Pombo

Senior Group Leader
Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine

Ana Pombo investigates mechanisms that regulate 3D genome folding and gene expression during mammalian development and in disease. After her doctorate work at the University of Oxford (UK), Ana was a recipient of a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship. Her group was first based at the MRC London Institute for Medical Sciences (2000-2013), before moving to the Max Delbrueck Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, in Germany. Ana is a Professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin, and she currently serves as Deputy Scientific Director of BIMSB and Deputy Scientific Program Deputy of the MDC. Ana received the Robert Feulgen Prize (2007), and elected EMBO member in 2018. She has pioneered the development of Genome Architecture Mapping (GAM), an orthogonal technology to map the 3D structure of chromosomes genome-wide.
