Bert is currently Vice President of Engineering and Commercialization at BlueNalu, a company on the vanguard of cell-based meats as an alternative food source. A PhD biochemical engineer with 25+ years of experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, Bert is eager to apply learnings from more traditional fermentation and cell culture used in the biopharmaceutical space to this new industry. He has held director-level positions at Shire, Amgen, EMD and Acambis (now Sanofi) and worked as a senior engineer at Genzyme, Biometics and Roche in process/facility design, bioprocess development and manufacturing technical services. Most recently, he was consulting through his own company helping clients set strategic direction in process and manufacturing technology and with implementation of high-level business processes such as Quality-by-Design towards improving work efficiency, cost and product quality.
