Dr. Bo Chen is the Vice President of Process Development at Genomatica, where she has spearheaded the development of all Geno technologies, overseeing the entire process development from ideation and conceptualization to lab development, scaling up technologies in pilot and demonstration scales, and establishing technology Basis of Design for capital project engineering, technology licensing and commercialization. Additionally, she serves on the Science and Industrial Advisory Board the U.S. Department of Energy's DoE Bioenergy and the Industrial Advisory Board the BioEnergy Office (BETO) Separation Consortium.
Prior to joining Genomatica, Dr. Chen worked at BP, where she held various roles, most recently serving as the Engineering and Economics Advisor for BP Group Research. In this position, she led process engineering and techno-economic analysis and managed the BP-MIT relationship. Previously, Dr. Chen was the Technology Manager and Chief Engineer for BP Biofuels and Advanced Bioproducts. Her earlier roles were within BP’s petrochemical sector, focusing on paraxylene, terephthalic acid (PTA), and aromatics and acetyls. She has supported manufacturing plants and participated in major capital projects in Belgium, Malaysia, and China, among other locations.
Dr. Chen earned a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from MIT, along with an MS in Chemical Engineering Practice and a minor in the Sloan MBA program. Previously, she was a Ph.D. student at Tsinghua University after receiving two bachelor's degrees with the highest honors from Tianjin University, one in Chemical Engineering and the other in Economics.
