Luis has 20 years of experience and a proven track record of bringing bench-scale research to manufacture at Genencor, Danisco, and DuPont. He has worked on protein evolution and strain engineering projects as well as process development and scale up of a wide portfolio of enzymes, biochemicals, consumer goods, and nutrition products. Many of these products became category leaders, are protected by 36 granted patents, and bring significant revenue. Of note, he led some of the largest company efforts at the time such as detergent enzymes for cold washes and enzymes for deconstructing agricultural waste to make cellulosic ethanol. Throughout his career, Luis led several global departments including Biochemistry, Recovery, Formulation, and Bioprocessing. He currently leads DuPont’s Nutrition and Biosciences unique venture program where he uses his cross-disciplinary expertise to help partner companies reach commercial scale and reduce their time to market. He is an advisor to the Joint Bioenergy Institute and several startups. Luis is an alum of Harvard Business School, holds a PhD from UC Berkeley in biochemical engineering, and a BS from the EPFL in Switzerland in chemical engineering.
