Dr. Rong Tong is Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Virginia Tech. He received a B.S. in Macromolecular Science from Fudan University in China, a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He conducted his postdoctoral work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston Children’s Hospital, prior to launching his own research laboratory at Virginia Tech in 2015. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including ACS AkzoNobel Award for Graduate Research, an Emerging Investigator by the Journal of Biomaterials Science, and a Class of Influential Researchers by Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research.
His group’s research focuses on the synthesis of biodegradable polymers, and the use of them for drug delivery application. The specific focus is on the design and application of on-demand drug delivery systems for cancer treatment.
