Dr. Zheng Wang has more than 20 years research experience in the area of microbiology, molecular biology, genomics and radiation biology. During his tenure at NRL, he developed diagnostic microarray technologies, which earned Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer award. He has initiated Systems and Synthetic Biology program at NRL by developing genetic system of marine bacteria and performing genomic studies. Recently, he established a radiation biology program to investigate how melanized fungi respond to and proliferate in ionizing radiation by applying molecular biology, functional genomics, material and chemistry science. His studies earned a number of NRL Annual Research Publication Awards. His research has been funded by Office of Naval Research and Defense Threat Reduction Agency. He earned his Bachelor in biology from Wuhan University, Master in microbial genetics from Shanghai Institute for Plant Physiology, Chinese Academy of Science and PhD in microbiology from University of Texas at Austin.
