An increasing number of therapies using biologics are requiring home-administration by the patient or a caregiver. To assist in the proper administration of these medications and ensure proper compliance, administration devices such as autoinjectors are being more commonly used. In the past, due to the development time needed for a device and early financial commitment, many products were first marketed in a vial or syringe and a device was introduced as a next generation dosage form.
In order to speed the process to provide a device for the clinic and market, a platform of devices was developed that can be applied quickly and cost-effectively. This presentation will describe the reasons for using a platform approach and lessons learned.
