Fuels/chemicals production by photogenic microorganisms using solar energy and carbon dioxide is essentially sustainable. In our previous report, we constructed a metabolically engineered Synechococcus elongatus strain PCC 7942 with a synthetic pathway for isopropanol production (Metab. Eng. 20, 101-108, 2013). In this study, we examined growth characteristics and effective isopropanol production using this strain by employing photobioreactor system with LED irradiation, which can selectively supply various wavelength of light with low power consumption.
