Integration of Cell Culture Process Platform and Cell Line Expression Systems to accelerate Biopharmaceutical Development

Most biotech companies have a platform process for their various unit operations. We developed a cell culture process platform for inoculum expansion and fed-batch production bioreactor. Similarly, our colleagues in research developed a cell line development platform. However, the true potential of the two platforms was reached when they were integrated. The cell culture medium was used for host cell line adaptation. The clones were screened in the final fed-batch production process. This has allowed us to routinely deliver 5 g/L titer processes for early clinical programs. We have been able to further accelerate the development timelines by streamlining the development activities from transfection to clinical manufacturing by adopting high-throughput screening platforms and disposable technology.
