Carbon reduction offers an opportunity for refiners and olefins producers to look for new solutions that balance profitability with carbon emissions. The tradeoff challenges them to meet emission targets while ensuring profitable operations. This session will discuss methods, skills, and software tools that can be used to predict and optimize this tradeoff between emissions and profits. The techniques and tools discussed are commonly referred to as “Planning and Scheduling” and will include opportunities to link with execution systems such as Advanced Process Control. In this presentation, we will provide engineers and technical managers visibility on how to: model CO2 and other GHG emissions, model emissions taxation schemes, set limits and targets on CO2 and other emissions to ensure compliance to sustainability targets, respond quickly to shifts in market demand with improved prediction of plant-wide emissions, and maintain profits by understanding effects of feedstock and operational changes on sustainability metrics.
