(64c) Improving Process Safety through the Principles of Human and Organizational Performance

A systems-based approach based on methodologies and technologies that promote an organization-wide safety culture empowers worker engagement, facilitates optimized performance, and enhances prevention and learning processes, leading to a safe work environment that is sustainable in the long term.

In this session we will discuss how technology-based safety management system based on the principles of human and organizational performance (HOP) can optimize an organization-wide learning process, providing important insights for continuous improvement. The driving principle behind HOP-based optimization is to build error-tolerant systems in an approach that encourages worker involvement in the safety process and acknowledges the importance of learning from mistakes to achieve the highest level of protection. How to leverage automation tools to verify data integrity, integrating safety training, feedback, and performance/asset monitoring with AI-based analytics capabilities, can provide valuable data and support for process safety and operational efficiency, enabling informed decision-making for prevention and improvement.
