In the present time, amid the global effort to fight climate change, research related to the use of Green Ammonia based fuel as an alternative candidate for carbon-free fuel is increasing. In this presentation, we will present the modeling process of a conventional industrial burner used for a specific industrial application, considering the detailed design of the burner and the involved combustion chemistry and physics. The results of combustion characteristics, in terms of flame temperature, laminar burning velocity, flame pattern and exhaust gas composition, using conventional hydrocarbon fuel will be first discussed. Thereafter, results from combustion simulation of Ammonia based fuel (blended with different % of Hydrogen) considering the combustion chemistry of Ammonia will be discussed including the modeling challenges experienced. Understanding gained is expected to help in the design and operation of new burners for applications in new processes related to energy transitions, such as Ammonia Cracking, as well as those of other existing processes in different industrial sectors to play a part in the present decarbonizing effort.
