2nd CCPS Global Summit on Process Safety
2015 Global Summit on Process Safety
Oral
Wednesday, November 4, 2015 - 11:00am to 12:30pm
Intentional Competency Development helps to ensure that all employees who impact process safety are fully capable of meeting the technical and behavioural requirements for their jobs. The bottom line: no matter how good the culture or management system is, or how well the company adheres to standards, it takes highly competent employees to implement those systems or standards. And that requires intentional competency development. Papers on this topic will highlight best practices in understanding competency expectations, providing educational resources, and allowing time for people to build competency at all levels of the organization. 1) Existing management practices for competency development at the unit level across operators, technicians through senior management and business executives to define requirements and identifying and addressing gaps if any. 2) Current practices used for competency mapping. 3) Case histories of competency development in the University. 4) Challenges of maintaining and continuously upgrading competency in the workplace 5) Resistance of ‘old- timers’ and how to overcome it
