More than 200 students at chapters from 12 different universities gathered in Lawrence, Kansas on April 3-4 for the 2015 AIChE Mid-America Regional Student Conference.
The event, hosted by the University of Kansas Student Chapter, provided AIChE student members the opportunity to network with their peers at other schools in the region as well get valuable post-graduation advice from chemical engineering professionals. Students also engaged in some highly competitive competitions throughout the two days.
Kansas State University Student Chapter’s “Bill Snyder Family Car,” named for their school's legendary football coach, was the resounding victor in the Regional Chem-E-Car Competition, taking first place for both distance and poster. Students from the KSU team will be invited to compete with their car at the national competition to be held at the AIChE 2015 Annual Student Conference in November in Salt Lake City. Also invited will be runners-up from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and Missouri University of Science & Technology student chapters. See the winning run in the video below.
Other regional competition winners included Carol Abraham, Oklahoma State University (Student Paper) and Catherine Le Denmat, Iowa State University (Student Poster).
Undergraduate students can join AIChE and participate in its programs and benefits at no cost thanks to sponsorship funding. For more information on AIChE Student Programs, click here.
