Purdue University and National University of SIngapore
This month's Sister Chapter highlight post features Purdue University and National University of Singapore. These two universities' chemical engineering students took part in a fun activity to get to know more about one another. Purdue University made a video of questions for their Sister Chapter. Then, the National University of SIngapore responded with another video made by its students. To check out these fun videos, keep reading below or go to the National University of Singapore's Facebook page.
Purdue University: Reflection on December Sister Chapter Meeting
One of the goals of Purdue University’s student chapter is to foster the professional growth of our members. In pursuing our goal, we seek to prepare our members for the increasingly global industry. We continue to learn and experience the Singaporean culture in our second year of sisterhood with National University of Singapore’s student chapter. Together, we brainstormed event ideas in our December meeting. To better learn each other’s culture, we plan to start a pen pal program between our members. To take another step forward and actually experience each other’s culture, we intend to arrange a recipe exchange. We are excited to bring our plans to fruition and will of course update you all on our progress!

National University of Singapore: Reflection on December Sister Chapter Meeting
As the Christmas season approached we talked about how our very diferent our weather was. The US experiences four seasons, while Singapore is mostly hot all year round, with more rainfall in December. We also suggested some ideas how our chapters can have activities together. One of which is a pen pal program which would link up interested students in both universities. Another idea was exchanging our local recipes. Most of us in Singapore imagine food in the US to be burgers, fries and Chinese takeout, but we know there must be so much more we have not heard about. At the same time, food is something Singaporeans place a huge emphasis on. We are always talking about the good food we have here. Local food is often a fusion of different cuisines and variety is aplenty. This recipe exchange would be a great way to get to know one another’s culture since food is something that brings people together too.
Our first collaboration has resulted in two videos. One from Purdue presenting students in NUS with questions they have about Singapore and the other from NUS in reply to those questions. During the chat, we also talked about the flying machine that NUS students have been working on, because word about it has gotten all the way to Purdue.
