The local section of AIChE in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted its dinner meeting on May 1, 2016. Warren W. Wilder, Saudi Aramco vice president of chemicals, addressed SA’s downstream growth, especially in chemicals, and its ambitious strategic plan to become a fully integrated global petroleum and chemicals enterprise.
More than 200 professionals representing some of the region's most prestigious companies and academic institutions attended the dinner meeting.
During the dinner meeting, Wilder explained Saudi Aramco’s proposition of expanding its chemicals sector through a two-pronged integration strategy. The plan is to integrate with global and local refineries as well as integration filling the gaps with customers. Although there are many challenges to reach Saudi Aramco’s goals, Wilder emphasized that through knowledge-based and innovation, the company will amend the downstream equation.
The Young Professionals Committee (@AIChE_Saudi on Twitter) members were given the opportunity to lead this successful meeting as hosts and emcees for the evening. This opportunity served as valuable experience for young professionals to learn how to handle a crowd and receive VIP guests.
The Saudi Arabia Local Section looks forward to more successful events this year.
