The Saudi Local Section YPs organized a technical workshop on the topic of “Plant Design: Optimization and Feasibility Studies Utilizing AspenTech Software” on January 18, 2017. This was the fifth in a series of technical workshops sponsored and delivered by AspenTech. Saudi YPs’ partnership with AspenTech, a platinum sponsor, aims to improve technology utilization skills among young professionals to analyze complex engineering problems.
The workshop has been organized in the western region of Saudi Arabia at Yanbu Industrial City, which houses one of the second largest industrial complexes in the Middle East. The Saudi YPs targets engaging Yanbu young professionals while the city is thriving as an industry hub.
Sixteen young professionals attended the workshop representing a number of major employers in the Kingdom including Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company (YASREF), Sinohydro, NATPET, and SIIMCO.
Mr. Saud Algwainem, a business consultant at AspenTech, engaged young professionals with several hands-on exercises using simulation software. Mr. Saud demonstrated a number of case studies for modeling and simulation of polymerization plants. This was followed by more detailed interactive exercises for conducting engineering economic feasibility studies.
The Yanbu Royal Commission, a government body responsible for administering Yanbu Industrial Complex, has continued its support, as a silver sponsor of the Saudi Local Section YPs, by providing access to training venues at the Yanbu Technical Institute.
The workshop culminated in the distribution of certificates of completion as a token of appreciation for attending YPs.
