Registration has opened for the first-ever AIChE Beer Brewing Competition (ABBC).* Local Section teams of two to five professional members are invited to compete for prizes against other chemical engineers. Your most creative and delicious beer in the selected beer style(s) will be judged for taste according to a standard beer-tasting rubric (80%), and teams will also be judged on the presentation of their brewing process in a poster competition (20%).
All team members must be 21+, have current, professional membership with AIChE and an active local section, and at least one member of the team must be under the age of 35. See the full competition rules for more details.
Prizes
Gold, silver, and bronze awards will be given in both tasting and in the poster presentation categories. The grand prize will go to the best cummulative score for the tasting and poster competitions. All members of the team winning the grand prize will receive a complimentary AIChE membership for the 2018 dues year ($199 value per person). Grand prize winners will also be featured in an AIChE webinar reviewing their winning brewing process.

Comments
I am not going to compete but I will be assisting.
Can someone outside United states apply? I'm interested
Hi Adesina. Unfortunately the competition is only open to those in the continental US for this year due to legal reasons. https://www.aiche.org/sites/default/files/docs/award/rulesandregulations3.pdf
Why can't student chapters or undergrads participate? The experience of competing in an AIChE competition like this could really give students the edge and experience to enter the brewing industry as chemical engineers.
Hi Hagia, this home brewing competition was designed specifically for Young Professional (YP) members of AIChE to get them involved with their local sections and with the Institute overall. Undergraduate students already have a number of competitions and scholarships for which they can participate and apply. We hope that after graduating you will consider participating in this competition as a YP member!
