2016 EWB grant recipients Donny Gross and Chris Royal of University of Tulsa sat down with us to discuss their project in Machacamarca, Bolivia.
Twenty years ago, the community had latrines installed by a different organization. Unfortunately, these latrines did not have a way for people to clean the cesspools, causing them to fall into disrepair and become unusable. The students' plan is to design and install eco-latrines for the community. Their ultimate goal is to provide a way for the people of the community to operate their new latrines, including giving them the ability to clean them, dispose of organic material, make repairs, and perform regular maintenance.
In the video, associate professor and Student Chapter advisor Dr. Christi Luks discusses the project with the students, asking them about challenges as well as about the most rewarding aspects of the work.
