This weekend, AIChE joins more than 3,000 other exhibitors in a celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at the 2018 USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, DC. The event, to be held April 7-8 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, will engage the imaginations of young people as they explore a multitude of STEM activities, while displaying to the general public the power and importance of science and technology. Organizers expect several hundred thousand grade school students and family members to attend.
AIChE volunteers will leading students in hands-on demonstrations illustrating chemical engineering principles such as mixing and separations, and will unveil a new AIChE career guidance poster as a tool to stimulate discussion of how chemical engineers contribute to society and the workforce. The poster highlights the work-lives of some of AIChE’s recent 35-Under-35 Award honorees.
AIChE’s participation at the festival is coordinated by member Frank Petrocelli, along with De-Wei Yin, chair of the Institute’s Societal Impact Operating Council. The AIChE Foundation is providing key financial support for AIChE’s involvement at the festival.
The USA Science and Engineering Festival is free to the general public. If you plan to be in Washington, DC, visit the AIChE Booth (1334).
AIChE will report live from the festival via social media, and will post follow-up stories online in the days ahead.
