AIChE and the ESC are excited to announce that the 2018 India Student Regional Conference will be held August 10-11, 2018 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. The conference will bring together students from all over India to participate in two days of ChemE-related programming, including workshops, competitions, and ample opportunities for attendees to network with their ChemE peers. The conference, which is the first-ever AIChE Student Regional Conference being held in India, is being hosted by VIT University's AIChE Student Chapter.
Regional conference events will include India's first official AIChE Chem-E-Car Competition®, ChemE Jeopardy, and Paper and Poster Competitions. The AIChE Student Chapters that place first in the Chem-E-Car Performance Competition and first in the ChemE Jeopardy Competition will be invited to compete in the respective 2018 Annual Student Conference competitions in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA this October. In addition, the AIChE student member that places first in the Paper Competition will be entered into the final round of the 2018 AIChE paper competition judging, and will be invited to present research at the 2018 Annual Student Conference.
The India Student Regional Conference will also include workshops about process safety, common computational and simulation software such as Aspen Plus® and MATLAB®, and more. AIChE will present on how to make the most of students' complimentary AIChE undergraduate student membership and on the process for starting a new AIChE Student Chapter. The conference will also feature a few unique challenges including "Knocking the Element" and "Chem-E-Safe," which test participants' ChemE knowledge and real time problem-solving skills. The VIT University Student Chapter was founded in 2014 and has since organized workshops, plant tours, and other events aimed to expand its Chapter's members' knowledge of the chemical engineering field. VIT University AIChE competed in the 2017 Annual Student Conference Chem-E-Car Competition® and has won two consecutive Outstanding Student Chapter awards. Viraj Phatarphod, a VIT University AIChE Student Chapter member and 2017 AIChE International Student Chapter Leadership Development Travel Grant recipient, shares that VIT aims to "bring out the best" in conference participants and that the conference will serve as a "platform to perform." VIT University's AIChE Student Chapter will be providing conference coverage on its Facebook and Instagram accounts.
