As an active, valued AIChE Member, I am writing to let you know that I will retire as Executive Director and CEO of AIChE effective April 20, 2022, after our Spring Meeting in San Antonio. While I have loved my years working at AIChE and all the wonderful people I have met, after 13 years I am ready for a change.
AIChE is an extraordinary global organization of professionals that has grown remarkably over the past years, guided in part by our amazing team of employees, our members, and our indispensable volunteers, who help us strive, as chemical engineers, to make the world a better place for all.
I am proud of what AIChE has achieved during my tenure — the growth of our Society for Biological Engineering and Center for Chemical Process Safety; the formation of our RAPID Manufacturing Institute; the development of our Futures of STEM Scholars Initiative and the Undergraduate Process Safety Learning Initiative; the creation of our Institute for Learning and Innovation; the founding of the Center for Hydrogen Safety (CHS); and our navigation through COVID, to name just a few accomplishments.
This is a time of important transformation for AIChE. Our leadership team is extraordinarily qualified and our organization is strong as it moves toward a future of new opportunities and challenges.
In the coming months, the AIChE Board will begin the search for my replacement. I will support the search committee and help ensure a smooth transition as the organization moves forward into the next chapter of its history. I am confident that whomever is chosen as your new executive director will have the strategic and leadership skills necessary to ensure AIChE remains committed to its mission.
There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time for me. I am looking forward to my own transition — becoming an active volunteer for AIChE, as I remain dedicated to ensuring the continued success of the Institute. I thank you all for the part you’ve played in my journey at AIChE. It has been an honor and privilege to serve this great organization. I am extremely proud of the AIChE community and the great work we are accomplishing.
