The AIChE Ahmedabad University Student Chapter hosted the 2021 India Student Regional Conference, from August 27–29, 2021. The conference was named Alchemy after the Greek process of transformation, a tribute to the way chemical engineers are transforming the world.
It was the first time, globally, that a student regional conference was hosted in a hybrid format. The conference saw organizing team members, faculty advisors, and the attending key dignitaries arrive at the Ahmedabad University campus, where technical and audio-visual arrangements were made. Some of the featured speakers were Deborah L. Grubbe, AIChE President, and June Wispelway, AIChE CEO and Executive Director, who delivered addresses at the inauguration of Alchemy ’21. Other notable guests included Ashok Panjwani, Executive Director of United Phosphorous Limited and Kirit Adhia, former Director of Rohit Surfactants Private Limited.
The participants attended online, enthusiastic and engaged, with several interactive and informative events planned for them for the three days of the conference. Some notable events were the CCPS and ANSYS Workshops, and various competitions including Chem-E-Safe, where teams used a simulation software to model a distillation operation. The conference also featured the Night of Networking, and Cultural Night, which celebrated South Asian culture.
The conclusion of the India Student Regional Conference marks the end of AIChE’s Student Regional Conferences for 2021. Looking ahead, make sure to register for the 2021 AIChE Annual Student Conference, taking place Nov. 5–8 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and online Nov. 13–14.
