The FOSSI initiative welcomed 151 scholars in its inaugural year. In 2022, the program celebrates its new class of 144 FOSSI scholars, who are from 25 states and will be attending 34 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) this fall.

Saiyd Harvin: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Central State University

Saiyd was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended The Cleveland School of Architecture and Design. In the fall, he plans to attend Central State University and major in computer science. In addition to maintaining an above average GPA throughout high school, Saiyd also excelled in football, wrestling, and track and field. He’s grateful to have had a role model like his high school and college algebra professor, Mr. Kurtz, who showed him how exciting math can be, and taught him that he could accomplish whatever he put his mind to.

Udochi Osuji: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University

Udochi is form Atlanta, Georgia, and attended Mount Pisgah Christian School. In the fall, he will be attending North Carolina A&T State University as a mechanical engineering major. He is very excited to be a FOSSI scholar and is especially happy about the relief it will bring to his mother, who has been a great role model for him and his sister.

Shikea Reeder: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina Central University

Shikea is form Greenville, South Carolina, and attended Christ Church Episcopal School. In the fall, she will be attending North Carolina Central University as a biochemistry major. Shikea will be the first in her family to attend college and she’s excited to set an example for her six siblings. She’s excited to pursue a degree in STEM, specifically biochemistry, because it allows her to see the world through a different lens.

Kamari Shaw: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Tennessee State University

Kamari was born and raised in Memphis Tennessee and attended Christ Church Episcopal School. In the fall, she will be attending Tennessee State University as a chemistry major. She maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and was inducted into the National Honor Society as well as other distinguished clubs. From an early age, she’s always known she wanted to have a career focused on helping others. She’s excited to be a FOSSI scholar and to be able to take her passion for science to a new level.
