As chemical engineers, we are often tasked with solving societal and global problems to ensure a more sustainable future. The 2023 AIChE Annual Meeting serves as the leading forum for chemical engineers to stay up to date on the latest innovations across our industry. At this year’s Sustainability and the Circular Economy Panel Discussion, academic and industry experts will cover a wide range of topics relevant to cutting-edge research, new technologies, and emerging growth areas in chemical engineering.
We sat down with Yu Shi, Vice President of Technical, Innovation & Supply Chain – Japan & South Korea OU at The Coca-Cola Company. She also serves as session chair at this year’s panel discussion. This session will take place on Monday, November 6, in Orlando during the 2023 AIChE Annual Meeting.
What can you tell us about the panel?
The panel consists of distinguished experts from academia, industry, NGOs, and government research labs to provide a diverse range of views on sustainability and the circular economy. The panelists will discuss the current state, the roles sectors can play, and how we can work together to advance the sustainability agenda and make progress.
What can we expect the panel to touch on within these broad topics?
Sustainability is a very broad topic. This panel won’t be able to discuss every aspect but will touch upon waste and the circular economy, recycling in the lens of sustainability and the circle economy, material designs and selections, and chemical and bio process designs, with particular emphasis on bioenergy, biofuels, and bioproducts.
How can we all lead the way to a sustainable future, as individuals and society?
This topic touches all of us, and all of us play a key role whether individually, or as a community and society— it really requires us to work together. We will hear much more about this from the panelists as they discuss their thoughts about how we can work together to lead the way to a sustainable future.
