March 4 marks a worldwide celebration of engineers known as World Engineer Day. There is no doubt that engineers do important work for the world and all of its inhabitants. This day was created to emphasize their hard work and spotlight their achievements, while also serving as an opportunity to inform and educate others on the significance of engineering and technology. The theme of this year’s World Engineer Day is “Engineering Solutions for a Sustainable World.”
Read below for some ways you can observe this day and celebrate engineers.
Thank an engineer
We interact with products crafted by engineers on a daily basis. Some things we might not think about that are essential to our daily routine (e.g., toothpaste, shampoo, detergents) have all been chemically engineered to fulfill their purpose. Chemical engineers are also responsible for creating and testing the pharmaceutical drugs responsible for saving lives. These are just a few reasons to thank an engineer and to show your appreciation for their significant contributions to our daily lives.
Join the AIChE community and spread the word
Did you know AIChE is home to more than 60,000 chemical engineers and related professionals from more than 110 countries? AIChE provides their members with technical information, conferences and training, professional connections, career resources, and discounted insurance products/personal services.
Encourage future generation of engineers
AIChE’s K-12 community is all about encouraging the future generation of engineers. AIChE recognizes that today’s youth will be responsible for continuing the great work of chemical engineers and solving future technical challenges. If you know a K-12 student who might be interested in STEM, don’t hesitate to spread the word about AIChE’s K-12 community.
Support the AIChE Foundation
The AIChE Foundation provides funding for impactful programs that support AIChE’s mission and promotes the advancement of the chemical engineering profession, today and in the future. In celebration of World Engineer Day, you too can join these efforts.
