Understanding intellectual property is becoming crucial for businesses. Despite the inherent value of intellectual property, legal rights can be lost in a variety of ways through both action and inaction. Business personnel at all levels must appreciate how and when intellectual property rights arise, and more importantly how they can be strengthened and preserved. Otherwise, the intellectual capital that could have become valuable assets may quickly become a liability.
