Pharmaceutical manufacturing has been dominated by the batch processing concept, where each unit dosage form is produced in a batch and tracked accordingly. However, over the last decade continuous manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and drug products has become increasingly important as there are many advantages, such as reduced capital and operational costs, as well as real-time quality control for increased process reliability and reproducibility. Thus, this session invites speakers to present their scientific efforts in the area of continuous processing for API and drug product manufacturing.
