Scientific and engineering literature has numerous examples of nanoscale versions of different materials with diverse shapes, unusual appearances, and record properties. They display remarkable optical, mechanical, magnetic, and electrical characteristics and inspire many forward-looking technological concepts and revolutionary ideas in a number of areas including biomedical technology. However, the technological impact of the large variety of nanoscale structures was quite small, so far. The chemical engineering community has a large role to play in realization of these remarkable technologies in real life. The need for establishing simple scalable methods to organize nanoscale building blocks from nano- to macroscale is intrinsic for this scientific area and has not been addressed well. Successful solutions of this fundamental problem can also resolve the bottleneck technological problems in many industries beyond biomedical technology. This symposium will examine the methods of transferring the unique properties of nanomaterials in scalable technologies with strong potential for technological impact in a number of areas including biomedical.
