The pharmaceutical industry has recently made significant progress in applying continuous technologies to both drug substance and drug product processes in manufacturing settings. In drug substance manufacturing for instance, countless works can be found for flow chemistry, continuous crystallization and even a multitude of work-up unit operations (e.g. solvent exchange, extraction with phase separation, etc.). A substantial gap exists in industrial examples of isolation and drying. This work describes the design and development of novel isolation and drying technology along with its testing on lactose monohydrate and other materials. Discussion of additional applications of the technology as well as strategic elements of its use is included.
