Continuous Processing Technologies Applied in Drug Substance Manufacturing II

Chair(s)

Changi, S. M., University of Michigan

Co-chair(s)

Wyvratt, B., Merck & Co., Inc.

Continuous processing in pharmaceutical development and manufacturing has significant advantages in terms of increased safety, throughput, selectivity, and quality compared to batch processing. Research is being carried out extensively in industry and academia for utilizing continuous technology from simple unit operations to multi-step chemical syntheses. This session will focus on applications and advances made by continuous processing relating to the production of drug substances. The session encourages talks elaborating on experimental approaches for scaling up, model predictions to understand the functioning of unit operations, and fundamentals inherent to continuous manufacturing (e.g. residence time distribution).
