Katrina, Rita, Loma Prieta; tsunami, tornado, mudslide... Process facilities face many and varied natural threats that can impose forces and consequences far greater than the design limits of equipment and controls. This session invites papers that address the many issues related to natural disasters, including plant siting; appropriate design basis selection; rare natural event likelihood and consequence assessment; technical evaluation of specific types of threats; natural disaster emergency preparation, response, and recovery; supply and product chain management; business continuity planning; and lessons learned from the 2005 hurricanes and other natural disasters that have affected the process industries.
