(92b) Scale-up Technology with FinTec® Reactor

Chart Energy & Chemicals has developed FinTec reactors which are easily scaled up from a lab unit to a commercial-sized reactor for various chemical reactions. FinTec reactors, one type of compact heat exchange reactor, are built in plate-fin configuration and consist of reaction and cooling/heating streams of multiple mini-channels. The mini-channel structure significantly enhances heat transfer so that the reaction can be well controlled. One of the excellent features of FinTec reactors is that the geometric structure of the mini-channel remains in the identical configuration scaling from lab unit to commercial reactor. Therefore the challenge in reactor scaling-up is mitigated. This paper discusses the applications using FinTec reactors for reactor scale-up.
