(153c) Enhanced Safety in LNG Plant Design

Authors

LNG plants are designed based on N+1 philosophy to provide high availability. Based on the same philosophy, why we don’t apply this criterion in safety?

Amec Foster Wheeler is including in their design some depressurization systems in places where there is high pressure or high volume of LNG (or NG) to provide more safety, despite the fact that API does not consider it mandatory. Such design provides more safety, allows recovery of LNG and reduces the flare emissions in case of overpressure.

Some examples, operating philosophy and P&ID will also be included in the paper.
