Industrial biotechnology has been delivering innovative solutions in medicine, nutraceutical, nutrition and cosmetics. Such solutions, which bring new performances as an active or ingredient, constitute new manufacturing processes to strengthen the supply or change the paradigms in well established values chains, are expanding and reaching the market in a fast-tracked way. This session will explore how industrial biotechnology is fostering such a dynamic field and provide examples of solutions in the late stage of their development, if not commercial.

Focus Session - Health & Well-being
3:30-4:00 PM: “Transforming Pharmaceutical Supply Chains”
Kristy Hawkins, Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Antheia, Inc.
Current pharmaceutical manufacturing approaches often result in inequitable access to essential medicines. The World Health Organization estimates over two billion people worldwide lack access to basic medicines. With synthetic biology, we can build more effective solutions to sustainably and responsibly produce medicines and drive more equitable health outcomes around the world. Antheia focuses on developing microbial fermentation processes to manufacture small molecule plant natural products used in the pharmaceutical industry and replace outdated supply chains that rely on farming. Following the recent announcement of large-scale manufacturing success of our first products, we will also discuss key challenges that remain to bring this technology to market.
4:00-4:30 PM: "Capitalizing on unique biological insights to reduce commercialization challenges: A view from an early stage start up."
Mouli Ramani, CEO, President and Co-Founder, Aviwell
Aviwell is a deep tech agrifood startup operating at the intersection of life and data Sciences. Based on 30 years of pioneering University research in glycemic control in the gut-brain axis, intestinal microbiota, and hybrid AI/ML techniques as applied to agrifood. Using its revolutionary hybrid AI-based Discovery Platform to improve animal growth and performance, Aviwell is developing revolutionary feed solutions that significantly improve animal health for the agrifood industry worldwide. Further, the company is capitalizing on their unique biological insights to reduce commercialization challenges - resulting in lower Capex and operating expenses as it commercializes its products. Mouli Ramani, Aviwell’s CEO will provide an overview of the Company's approach.
4:30-5:00 PM: "Commercializing Sweet Proteins"
Mike Speer, Director of Manufacturing, Oobli
While Sweet Proteins have the potential to revolutionize the way we consume the foods we love, in the end they're just proteins. As such, the manufacturing of Sweet Proteins is subject to the same challenges, pitfalls, and opportunities as the production of any other heterologous protein. Here will be discussed the best-practices, lessons learned, and success-metrics related to the manufacturing of sweet proteins, and also the products in which they're used.
5:00-5:30 PM: "Commercializing microalgae-based solutions for novel nutrition: from the idea to repeated business”
