Dr. Mansfield joined Eastern Michigan University as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the Fall of 2018. His research interests are focused on fundamental and applied thermofluid sciences, in particular combustion and pyrolysis processes, transportation and stationary energy systems, and power device design and optimization processes. His recent research programming has focused on experimental and modeling studies of combustion and decomposition processes in supercritical water, related to renewable energy generation from biomass and waste. He is also interested in developing programs which improve diversity and inclusiveness in the engineering profession, focusing on communities in Southeast Michigan. Dr. Mansfield received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2014 and lives in Dexter, MI with his wife, son, and many pets.
