BRIAN DICKSON. brian.dickson@strath.ac.uk I am a retired Senior Teaching Fellow in the department of Chemical Engineering, University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, were I delivered core chemical engineering material at BEng, MEng & MSc levels. I am currently completing a PhD in Chemical Engineering on “Warning Signals & Triggers that are indicators of process safety incidents” I was a specialist teacher in Process Safety and have a series of international conference papers that confirm my standing in this subject. I have presented and chaired sessions at the Global Process Safety Conference (GPSC) in 2015, 2016, 2017 &2018, and was Vice-Chair 2019 then Chair 2020 of the PSSM track. I have received invitations to closed industrial visits to major chemical companies to review their process safety practices and reviewed safety practices when supervising final-year student placement projects. In 2019, I was awarded, on behalf of the department, a Royal Academy of Engineering award to appoint an Industrial Visiting Professor, (£30,000), received a Faculty of Engineering Knowledge Exchange award in 2013 and an ExxonMobil Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011 (£10,000), based on building teaching case studies in Process Safety Management. I was Client Relationship Manager for the Project Management Academy programme (MSc Engineering Project Management), which was worth £1,000,000 over a four year period. I had previously designed and delivered an EPSRC sponsored,(MSc Process Technology & Management), which is now currently worth £250,000 pa to the department, and a further programme (MSc Power Plant Engineering) worth £500,000 over the period 2008-11. I have also been awarded Student Association Teaching Excellence Award 2013 & 2017. I have used my previous 20 years of industrial experience to establish an expertise in the Process Safety subject area, to design and develop CPD programmes, and find industrial placements for final-year students.
