Biography Charles D. Herzog is a chemical process engineer, retired from a 40-year career in design, startup, process control, and capacity test runs. Charles’ most noteworthy achievements are in the process control area. He invented a series of process control tools, still in use today, directly from heat and material balance equations. These include a rigorous level control algorithm, a patented distillation control strategy, and a partial pressure control application for polyethylene reactors. Charles holds Bachelors and Masters of Chemical Engineering degrees from Rice University, and was a licensed P.E. Charles also had a second career as a soccer referee, and now enjoys lifelong hobbies of cycling, chess, and piano.
