Charles holds BS and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Shell Oil Company for 23 years and was responsible for Process Control in Shell Oil and Shell Chemical USA for the last nine years. In 1984, Charles started DMC Corp. and was the CEO until he sold it to Aspen Technology in 1996. Charles has been recognized for his contributions to engineering with the AICHE CAST division’s Best Practice’s Award, by the American Control Conference’s Engineering Practice Award, and by Control Magazine’s Engineer of the year for 1998. In 2000, he was elected to the NAE and in 2003 was placed in Control Magazine’s Hall of Fame. He is currently a distinguish adjunct professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Houston, a member of the Engineering Advisory Board for Lamar University, and president of Cutler Technology.
