David Stern is a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering developing a novel nanostructure-based platform capable of efficient antibody capture for purification and therapeutic delivery. By combining knowledge from self-assembling supramolecular nanomaterials and coacervate systems, he has engineered a robust, modular affinity-based system for selective monoclonal antibody binding and separation in collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb. He is currently designing a peptide affinity hydrogel for long-term release of therapeutic proteins. His work has led to three first-author and over six co-authored peer-reviewed publications, two patent applications, and eight conference presentations.
