Iiro Harjunkoski
Iiro Harjunkoski has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland with an early emphasis on scheduling and mathematical optimization. He did a Postdoc at Carnegie Mellon University focusing on scheduling and constraint programming. He joined ABB Corporate Research Germany in 2001 and has worked on optimization problems in various industries (pharma, chemicals, O&G, P&P, copper, steel, cement, F&B, service, power grids), including demand-side management. His research results have been deployed in both end-customer installations and internal products. He is also adjunct professor in PSE at Aalto University (Finland) since 2016. In 2019 he moved to Hitachi ABB Power Grids Research where he is Research Fellow and focuses on modeling and solution of energy-related complex optimization problems, often containing discrete decision variables and explores novel approaches to tackle these. He has published more than 145 scientific journal and conference papers and has an h-index of 30.
