Jack Brouwer
Dr. Brouwer is Associate Director of the Advanced Power and Energy Program (APEP) and Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He is focusing research, beta testing, education, and outreach on high-efficiency, environmentally preferred energy and power generation technology including fuel cell and gas turbine systems as principal targets. Current research projects address renewable power intermittency and integration, battery electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle evaluation and infrastructure development, advanced fuel cell and gas turbine dynamic operations, hydrogen and electricity infrastructure development, and power electronics and energy conversion devices for the smart grid. Dr. Brouwer holds a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering and chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His expertise encompasses energy systems, fuel cells, combustion, turbulent reacting flows, computational fluid dynamics, detailed chemical kinetics, and the design and operation of advanced experimental facilities for emerging energy technologies.
