Leah Lewis

Leah Lewis is a third year, chemical engineering major at Hampton University. She is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, but has lived in Houston, Texas for the majority of her life. This summer, Leah was able to complete her first research internship through the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. Her research focused on generating metabolic models of Pseudomonas putida, a soil bacterium, for the biological breakdown of PET plastics. Leah is also involved in several organizations such as the American Chemical Society, D.O.D. STEM Scholarship Program at Hampton University, and she serves as the President of the Gamma Beta chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon, a national honor society for chemical engineers.
