Dr. Philip (Phil) Schonewill is a chemical engineer and Team Lead of the Experimental Fluids Engineering team, a part of the Experimental & Computational Engineering Group in the Energy and Environment Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). The Experimental Fluids Engineering team conducts testing and development of nuclear treatment technologies – typically involving larger-scale experiments with simulants – in support of the Hanford site and its contractors, with a focus on relevant topics in fluid mechanics, mixing, transport phenomena, physical and chemical characterization of materials, and chemical engineering. Dr. Schonewill has extensive training in fluid mechanics and transport phenomena, including studying particle-fluid interactions and other multiphase phenomena. He holds a PhD and MS in chemical engineering from Notre Dame and a BS in chemical engineering from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI).
