Ran An holds BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. After receiving his PhD, Ran has worked as Research Engineer in ApoCell and LI-COR Biosciences. He is currently Senior Research Associate in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case Western Reserve University. Ran’s research focus on improving human health and quality of life by fundamental understanding of cell biomechanics, and through innovations in micro/nano-engineering, microfluidics, biosensors, and point-of-care technologies. Dr. An has received Cardiovascular Research Training Program NIH T32 grant from NIH. He received award from National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering for developing affordable non-invasive screening and minimally-invasive diagnoisis of anemia, malaria and sickle cell disease (SCD). Additionally, he is leading a NIH-funded project as the principle investigator to develop a point-of-care technology for integrated testing of anemia and SCD.
