Ratka Damnjanovic conducted this research while pursuing her Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering as part of Dr. Venkat Behethanabotla's Lab and Dr. Robert Frisina's Lab with the Global Center for Hearing and Speech Research at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Her work concentrates on finding new and more effective ways for neural stimulation and prosthetic devices for hearing loss. The aim of her research is to explore the possibility of utilizing localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) phenomena using gold nanoparticles and visible green light for neural stimulation of primary neurons in-vitro, and specifically hybrid electro-plasmonic modulation of neural activity and its implications to cochlear devices.
