Thomas H. Pratt began his career in 1959 with the Rohm and Haas Company researching the explosive properties of solid propellants and propellant ingredients. In 1970 he joined Hercules Incorporated as a Hazards Analyst where he expanded his expertise in explosions into consultations with the chemical and petroleum industries. While investigating the cause and origin of explosions he also became proficient in electrostatics. In 1989 he joined Burgoyne Incorporated as a Principal Consultant and wrote the book Electrostatic Ignitions of Fires and Explosions, available from AIChE CCPS. He is presently performing consultations in the field of electrostatics, especially where fires or explosions are involved.
