I currently work with Prof. Sibani Lisa Biswal at Rice University. My Ph.D. dissertation research focuses on the dynamics of macromolecule aggregation—utilizing experimental microfluidic and rheological techniques to investigate asphaltene aggregation at both solid-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces. Over the past few years, I have developed an integrated set of microfluidic analyses to characterize the coalescence and deposition kinetics of the asphaltene-stabilized emulsions. More specifically, I use a modified interfacial rheometer to quantify the aggregation of these macromolecules, while simultaneously visualizing the microstructure of these aggregates at the liquid-liquid interface. To complement these studies, I analyze the structural characteristics of these emulsions at various interfaces, as well as the effects of surfactant additives, using several imaging and microscopy techniques. I have also collaborated with industrial companies (Chevron, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Flotek, and Ecolab) to apply these techniques to practical product formulation and examination.
